Summer Greetings from La Playa Cove!

We hope you’re enjoying a wonderful summer! The La Playa Yacht Club Board has been hard at work this year completing several major upgrades. Our dock has been updated, the ramp replaced, and a new gate installed. Whew—what a project! Take a walk along the trail and see the improvements for yourself. Not only does everything look fantastic, but it’s also now up to code with the Port.

Opening Day Highlights

On May 18th, we celebrated Opening Day in style with signal flags, a new club banner, and plenty of refreshments for visitors. It was a great success—we welcomed officers from the Navy Yacht Club and even gained a new member! Interest in our club is on the rise, and we’re excited to keep that momentum going.

Commodore’s Update

Commodore Mike Bixler continues to recover from major surgery earlier this year. While he’s been focusing on his health, Mike has remained involved behind the scenes to help ensure everything runs smoothly. We wish him a full and speedy recovery!

New Website Launch

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new website! Huge thanks to Meg and Brian O’Hearn for volunteering to redesign and modernize the site. Once complete, it will include features like online renewals, membership applications, and donation options. We also want to thank Rosemary and Chelsie Taugher for laying the foundation and getting us started.

Annual Garden Picnic – August 19th

Mark your calendar! Our Annual Garden Picnic will once again be hosted in the beautiful garden and patio of Mike and Sally Bixler. You may register for the picnic online here.
Attendance is limited to 40 people, so RSVP early!
Jensen’s will be catering again—always a crowd favorite—and we’ll have beer, wine, and soft drinks available.
We’re also excited to welcome Visit Baja California Sur, who will be joining us as a special sponsor to showcase vacation opportunities in our neighboring region to the south. Don’t forget to grab some raffle tickets for a chance to win great prizes!

Auction Items
If you purchased an auction item last year and haven’t yet used it, let us know—we’ll do our best to extend it. If you did use your item and want to purchase it again (activity only), we’ll try to make that happen as well.

Annual Business Meeting – November 18th

Our annual business meeting will be held at the Point Loma Assembly on Talbot Street.

Board Opportunities

We’re looking for new members to join our Board of Directors! If you have a bit of free time and are interested in helping shape the future of the club, we’d love to hear from you. It’s a fun and rewarding way to get involved, and the time commitment is minimal. Election results for the 2026 board will be announced at the November business meeting. Let us know if you would like to be included on the ballot.
